Chapter Three

James couldn’t sleep. He was unable to think of much except Roger and his heartbreak. It had to be horrible to go through something like that, especially when the other party didn’t give a shit about his feelings. When James had met Hazel, he didn't have a good feeling about her. She had been pretty and feisty, someone who would normally be perfect for Roger, but something underneath rubbed him the wrong way.

It was probably because his own crush on Roger was clouding his judgement, and he wanted to hate her. Now his gut feeling was justified, and it made James feel uncomfortable.

He really needed a few days himself away from the bar. Chris would more than likely agree to it, especially as James hadn’t had a break of his own in three years. He hadn’t found any need to have a holiday outside of the regular holidays they all took off. Perhaps this was a good time to ask for some time to himself. His sister could take over the bar supervision, although Mark, Roger and the others barely needed any supervision. They were just too damn good.

Especially Roger. He was just damn good all over.

James pushed that away. He didn’t want to think about Roger right now. It was sending his mind into a whirl. Having a crush on someone who was in a relationship was bad enough, but now he was single, and the crush seemed to have ramped up. James felt embarrassed at the realisation.

He needed a break. Time away from Roger should ease off on his own feelings. Maybe he can get a grip on himself.

He wasn’t going to get any sleep anytime soon. James was aware of that. Rolling out of bed, James put on boxers and headed downstairs. He needed a good fly outside, just to clear his head. Anything to stop thinking about Roger and whatever was going on between them. James wasn’t an idiot; he could tell there was something brewing between the pair of them. But with Hazel being there meant James wasn’t about to be a fucking idiot. Now she was gone…

He’s only been single for a few hours. And he’s a wolf. Out of bounds all the way. So why are you still fucking thinking about him?

James was sure his head was going to hurt after this.

Stepping out into the back garden, James made sure that his back door was locked and put the key under the stone by the door. Then he stood in the middle of the lawn and shifted. Being at the end of the cul-de-sac and not having anyone around him made it the perfect place for him to shift without having any issues. The last thing he wanted was for the neighbours to look out at the wrong moment and freak out.

After a moment of discomfort, James found himself standing on the grass with his clawed feet, his arms now wings. A couple of bounces across the lawn, and he was up in the air, flying away from his house and towards the green.
